IOL
- noun The incarnation of
MUD2 which ran on the Ireland Online network
from 1994 to 1995.
Historical note:
arising from the ashes of the Almac
incarnation,
IOL's MUD2 was vibrant and fun but (inevitably) free. It remained
free despite MUSE's being assured that charging would begin
for it on a number of occasions. Other factors, most
notably complaints from IPLAY that IOL
players
had been on their system poachin, contributed to
the eventual decision to withdraw the game from their
service. To be fair, they had no hard feelings and they asked to
take it again after Interplay reneged on their exclusivity
agreement promise; by then, though, MUSE had arranged a licence for
mud2.com, and felt it wouldn't have been fair on
that system to agree.
