  • interjection Amusement, expressed in conversation by ASCII characters meant to look like faces. The most common are ':-)' (meaning 'smile') and ';-)' (meaning 'wink'), which also come in the noseless versions ':)' and ';)'. There are thousands more... They're not as popular in MUD as in mundane chat programs, principally because in MUD you can type 'smile' and the game will cause your persona to smile; smilies are therefore usually reserved for private or shouted communication.
