- noun An entity in the game which represents you. Note that this is NOT the same thing as persona: a persona is a representation of you in the game, whereas an avatar is a representative which you control. The former gives the player information of the form "You are in a narrow corridor.", whereas the latter uses or implies "I am in narrow corridor."; in other words, they have different points of view. Many graphical MUDs and chat systems use avatars rather than personae, but their immersive experience is generally regarded to be inferior. See character.
